This unusual semi-subterranean contemporary home is situated in Gloucestershire, in South West England.

This listed building was reduced to ruin by years of neglect and fire. It is located on the crest of a hill overlooking Siddington Village. The design approach to the building has kept an open relationship with the surrounding agricultural landscape by developing a discreet and substantial underground extension to the tower. This underground extension provides the main open plan living space and is lit by both a central open sunken courtyard and a lateral 'landscape scoop' concealing the new swimming pool and associated sun terraces from public view.

This contemporary building remains the dominant structure, providing the main access to the four-bedroom family house and the means of vertical circulation. It is also the visual focus of the main sunken courtyard garden. Some days at work leave a person cold -- literally.

That's how it is for John Nettifee, a truck driver for Target, who lost control of his rig and fell into an icy pond.
Today's accident happened around 6:30 a.m., near Monticello, Minn., on Interstate 94 when the truck driven by Nettifee, 35, crossed over lanes of oncoming traffic and skidded onto the pond.
Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol says the semi slid 100 to 200 yards across the ice before breaking through into the chilly water.

Nettifee crawled to safety across the frozen surface, and was taken to the hospital, treated, and released shortly thereafter.

The freight truck settled in about seven feet of water and workers began removing it in stages from the pond later in the morning.The slipup clogged up traffic on the westbound lane of I-94 for most of the morning, as highway patrol investigators reconstructed the accident.

It will help the differently abled persons like visually impaired, people with partial vision impairment, wheel chaired person and all handicapped people to avail the services of the ATMs, which were out of their reach till now.

The need

Using ATMs is the most difficult task for those who are visually impaired or on the wheelchair, as most banks do not have Braille and talking machines. So, this Universal ATM machine will aid differently abled users to a great deal.

Key features

The flat surface viewed from the top angle looks curved, this works as a support for a handicapped person to balance with the crutches. The keypad is given a depth so that visually impaired people could understand the height difference. Below the card reader is an original card placed so that it is easy for the person to understand which side of the card is to be inserted in the machine. From the door to the machine, there is a carpet spread, which helps the visually impaired person to reach the machine. The keys in the keypad are nicely spaced out and are bigger in size, which helps in the tolerance of errors. The money outlet indication is slightly embossed helping the visually impaired person to follow to the money outlet.

These are the shapes I cut out of them to use. Pieces A and B are cut from the first milk jug and then piece C is cut from the second milk jug. This really was a prototype, so next time I think I'd go for a taller piece as section C. I guess it depends on the size of the head you're making it for though.

I used hot hotglue, rather than the low temp stuff, in order to try and secure the pieces together more firmly. As you can see, piece A was the lower front and sides of the helmet and piece C is the front of the helmet from the nose up. The pouring top part of the milk jug had to be cut off to make piece C, so to cover up that and make the helmet a bit more aesthetically pleasing I cut out the circular indent from the side bit that was left over from first milk jug. This fitted in nicely to fill that hole.

Try it on and double check the positioning of the Eye holes. (note= Make sure they're ascetically pleasing, and usable for vision.)

I hole punched the back of the two protruding side panels so that I could put in elastic to hold it on. It's not a "full helmet", but it is significantly more than a mask. I then glued the two lids of the milk jugs on either side of the mouth part.

I had a can of white spray paint, so I used that on it. You could paint it with acrylic craft paint though, or if you are smart then you could deliberately get the totally opaque white milk jugs to start with!

Here it is painted up with black, white and grey craft paint. I decided at the last minute to put the ear cover things on (they are made from the bottom plastic sections from the containers you get from the 50cent toy dispensers. The horizontal black line around the forehead is just a strip of black electrical tape.

It is not unlikely that armourers, with their proven skills in working and articulating metal to the forms of the human body, would have been among the first craftsmen to involve themselves in the manufacture of functional artificial limbs. In the case of the hand shown here, both the thumb and the paired fingers are capable of being independently locked in several positions by means of an elaborate system of ratchets and spring-operated pawls that can be instantly released by pressure on a push-button protruding from the back of the hand.

The earliest surviving hands of this kind are those made for the celebrated Franconian Knight, Götz von Berlich (circa 1480-1562), raised to heroic status by the young Goethe in his childrens' drama of 1772. Two are preserved in Schloss Jagsthausen, and a third in Schloss Grüningen bei Riedlingen. Spanning the entirety of the Peruvian Desert, these massive drawings are some of the only remnants of a culture that thrived during the more boring of the Common Era's millennia. These geoglyphs depict many different shapes, most of which are just seemingly random geometric figures and lines. Some of the more interesting pieces include hummingbirds, monkeys, and one that even looks strangely like a modern day astronaut.

They were made by simply rearranging the topsoil of the vast, dry desert; the entirety of the plateau is covered with small red pebbles. Just underneath them, however, is white sand which shows a stark contrast and makes the figures visible from space.

While the construction process was relatively simple, namely digging, their meaning and precision of execution are still the focus of much debate. Many of the lines of the geometric shapes are absolutely perfect, a seemingly impossible feat to accomplish without the use of modern technology. Joe Nickell, an American English professor with a penchant for ruining people's fun, devised a way to recreate them using tools only available to the Nazca people.

But others are skeptical of this anti-skeptic. Many believe that even though making relatively straight lines is easy using ropes, stakes and a basic understanding of geometry, others assert that there's no way to make figures of such size and beauty without seeing them from an aerial view.

While the cliche call of "UFOs did it!"of course rings out, some scholars have pointed out alternative methods of flight. Jim Woodman was able to construct a hot air balloon-like craft using native objects. But seeing as there's no evidence of any sort of balloon-type object ever found in that area, this is a pretty stupid claim.

The lines have held up amazingly well due the complete lack of precipitation in the desert; it's one of the driest in the world. But scientists are worried that their future may be shortlived as climate change is setting in and brining more rain to the region.
